Background:

David Blacksmith is a Cree from the Pimichikamak Cree Nation in Cross Lake, Manitoba. His devotion to the traditional spiritual way of life is portrayed in his art.
David has had many teachers to guide him on his spiritual path. David's inspiration was given to him by his grandfather who shared his knowledge of spirituality and legends with him. While growing up on the trap line when grandpa wasn't sharing stories he would draw by the fire or candle light. His art has evolved into the stories of our ancestors and the struggles of life today for many people.

David's love for his Cree heritage has given him the tools to express what can only be seen through dreams of the grandfathers and grandmothers. These spirits guide him to tell the stories of his people through his art. Through time and many teachings he now shares his ceremonies and artwork with many for they are gifts from kichi-manitou not his alone. The art he shares brings the spirits to life and gives you the strength and knowledge of the old ones that have been passed on through time immemorial. These teachings are free to be shared with all humankind using his art to guide him through life and the many trials and tribulations we all share universally.
