Handcrafted Standing Tamarack Bird Decoy – Three-Legged Design

This handcrafted tamarack bird decoy features a unique three-legged standing design and a gracefully curved neck — a distinctive variation within traditional Cree tamarack carving styles. Made entirely from tightly bound tamarack twigs, this sculpture reflects the precision, patience, and cultural artistry of northern craftsmanship.

Tamarack decoys have a long history in Cree and other Indigenous communities across Eeyou Istchee and northern Canada. Originally used as practical hunting decoys, their natural colours blended seamlessly with the land and water. Today, they are celebrated as meaningful cultural artworks, each one embodying traditional knowledge, connection to the land, and the artist’s personal touch.

Every decoy is shaped by hand, resulting in natural variations that make each piece one-of-a-kind.
