Handcrafted by Cree sewing and crafts teacher Isabell Jonah Weistche of Waskaganish, Eeyou Istchee, these traditional-style slippers reflect generations of Cree sewing knowledge and craftsmanship.
Each pair is made from soft tanned moosehide and finished with a plush beaver fur trim, creating a warm and comfortable slipper suited for indoor wear. The uppers feature individually created floral designs, with decoration varying from pair to pair. Some are carefully hand-beaded, while others feature embroidered floral motifs, giving every pair its own character.
Isabell began sewing at a young age, learning from Elders and knowledgeable women in her community. Her work draws on traditional sewing techniques while allowing each piece to express its own colours, patterns, and details.
Because these slippers are individually handmade, no two pairs are exactly alike. Natural variations in the moosehide, fur, stitching, beadwork, and embroidery are part of what makes each pair unique.
