Detail

This handcrafted tamarack bird is shaped using tightly woven tamarack twigs, forming a grounded, standing design that reflects traditional styles. The clean, curved neck and full body give the piece a strong, balanced presence.

Mounted on a natural birch-round base, it highlights the natural materials and careful handwork that define this form of Cree craftsmanship.

Tamarack birds have long been made by Cree and other northern Indigenous peoples, originally serving as hunting decoys designed to blend into the land. Today, they continue as cultural artworks that carry forward knowledge, skill, and connection to the territory.

Each piece is handmade, resulting in slight variations that make every sculpture one of a kind.

Approximate Dimensions:
• Height: 6.5"
• Length: 7.5"
• Width: 3.25"
• Base: 2.34" round birch base

Sizes may vary slightly due to the handmade nature of each piece.

Handmade by: Gordon Blackned
From: Waskaganish, Eeyou Istchee

A classic tamarack bird form, well suited for collectors or as a meaningful piece of Cree craftsmanship in the home.
