Beaded Earrings by Lilian F. Sam

Hand-beaded earrings by Cree artist Lilian F. Sam of Chisasibi. Each pair is stitched bead by bead in glass seed beads and finished on silver-tone fish hook ear wires with clear backs, so they hang straight and stay put.

Lilian works in bold, clean patterns: a butterfly in earth tones, a long floral bar in lavender and greens, and a coral rose with turquoise leaves. Because every pair is made by hand, the two earrings mirror each other closely without being machine-identical.

• Brown Butterfly: butterfly wings in tan and taupe brown, outlined in black on a white background, with a silver body and a small brown diamond near the ear wire
• Lavender Floral Bar: long rectangular bar in iridescent clear-white beads, lavender flowers with navy centres, mint and green leaves, navy accents down the middle
• Coral Rose: coral rose outlined in iridescent burgundy, with turquoise leaves at the base
• Purple Butterfly: butterfly wings in shades of purple, outlined in white on a gray background, with a black body and a small brown diamond near the ear wire
