Coffee Made by Indigenous Hands
"As we choose to call it in our native language, Kanonkwa'tseriio, or Good Medicine, we believe in treating coffee as medicine. If the best medicine is fresh, we believe coffee warrants the same reverence, respect and should always be consumed as fresh as possible."
Moccasin Joe Artisan Coffee Roasters
Moccasin Joe is an Indigenous, family owned artisan roastery. Their roaster, Walter, works in small batches every week, so each bag reaches the shelf close to its roast date. Wachiya carries three of their roasts in 340g whole bean bags.
Choose your roast
Half Caff, Medium Dark (MJC1000)
- Origin: Colombia and Guatemala, sourced through the One Spirit Indigenous to Indigenous Coffee Alliance
- Tasting notes: spice, chocolate, brown sugar
- Process: sugarcane decaf, natural process
Full flavour without the full caffeine hit. Balanced enough for an afternoon cup, and rooted in a trading relationship built on respect and reciprocity between Indigenous producers and roasters.
Decaffeinated, Dark (MJC1001)
- Process: sugarcane process, using a natural solvent derived from locally sourced sugarcane
- Character: the rich flavour of the bean is preserved through decaffeination
The sugarcane method uses less energy and produces less waste than conventional decaffeination, and it supports the local economies where the sugarcane is grown.
Colombian Mohawk Roast, Dark (MJC1002)
- Certification: Fairtrade Certified
- Tasting notes: bright acidity, caramel, cacao, hints of vanilla
Moccasin Joe's signature dark roast, and a favourite with espresso machines.
