PRODUCT DETAILS
An original acrylic painting by Cree artist Adam Enosse of Moosonee, Ontario, painted live in the Wachiya store in Old Montreal. A bear walks across the ground beneath a deep blue sky with a bird perched on its back, while red, blue and white circles drift overhead. The bear is filled with swirls, waves and dotted patterns in layered shades of grey, outlined in black and white.
The story behind the painting
Adam began the day knowing only that he wanted to paint a bear, with no set theme. He added to the painting as the day went on, and its meaning developed through the process.
The red and blue circles represent life and death, living in balance, the duality of life. The white circles represent the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
Adam enjoys watching and feeding birds and often adds small birds to his artwork, which gave him the idea to place a bird on the bear's back. The bear is unbothered by it, a reminder that we should all live peacefully together and always walk in balance.
Adam describes his style as a mixture of local Cree art and Woodland style, which comes from his mother's side of the family. He works in acrylic on canvas, and has been making art for most of his life.
