This handmade, hand-carved, and hand-painted cedar decoy features outstretched wings and is finished in black, brown, and white, designed to hang from a string in full flight rather than stand on a base. Made from solid cedar wood and shaped entirely by hand, each piece captures a Canada goose mid-flight, showcasing the skill and patience that go into every carving.
Cedar and tamarack decoys like this one have been part of Cree and other Indigenous cultures of northern Canada for generations. Originally used as functional decoys for hunting, today they are admired as cultural artworks and decorative pieces, symbolizing a deep connection between traditional knowledge, craftsmanship, and the land.
