PRODUCT DETAILS

This handcrafted flying tamarack bird decoy is made using traditional Cree techniques, carefully woven from natural tamarack twigs. With its wide, outstretched wings and graceful flight posture, the sculpture captures the beauty and movement of a bird soaring overhead.

Tamarack decoys have a long history among Cree and other Indigenous cultures of northern Canada. Traditionally used as functional duck decoys during hunting, their natural materials blended seamlessly with the landscape and waterways. Today, these pieces are appreciated as cultural artworks and decorative objects that reflect the deep connection between craftsmanship, traditional knowledge, and the land.

Tamarack twig weaving requires patience and skill, as each twig is carefully selected, shaped, and woven to form the bird's body and expansive wings. The impressive wingspan showcases the artist's craftsmanship while creating a lightweight sculpture with striking visual presence.

Each decoy is individually handmade, making every piece unique.
