This handcrafted tamarack goose decoy features a standing form with raised wings, capturing a moment of alertness and movement. The upright posture combined with lifted wings gives the piece a strong presence while maintaining the balance and simplicity of traditional decoy forms.
Carefully shaped by hand using tightly woven tamarack twigs, the structure highlights both durability and detail. The extended wings add depth and dimension, showcasing the skill required to achieve strength and symmetry in a more open design.
Tamarack decoys have long been made by Cree and other northern Indigenous peoples. Traditionally used for hunting, they were crafted from natural materials to blend into the environment. Today, they continue as cultural artworks that carry forward knowledge, craftsmanship, and connection to the land.
Each piece is handmade, resulting in slight variations that make every sculpture one of a kind.
